Join a small-group adventure from Medan to experience the natural beauty of Gunung Leuser National Park in Bukit Lawang. This tour offers two choices: a one-day wildlife experience or a 2-day journey that includes one night camping in the jungle.
Your trip begins with a pickup from your hotel in Medan. A friendly driver will collect you together with other participants before heading toward Bukit Lawang. Once you arrive, meet your local trekking guide and continue your journey into the national park.
Walk into the lush lowland rainforest filled with towering ancient trees. This forest environment is perfect for spotting primates and other wildlife species. During the trek, you may encounter Sumatran White-handed Gibbons (Hylobates lar vestitus), including several groups and solitary individuals, Southern Pig-tailed Macaques, Thomas’s Leaf Monkeys (also known as Thomas’ Langur), the impressive Great Argus Pheasant, and even wild orangutans.
After spending several hours exploring the forest, return toward the Bukit Lawang village area. Enjoy a unique rafting experience along the Bohorok River using large rubber tubes equipped with hammock-style seating. Float down the river while passing through beautiful forest scenery with tall dipterocarp trees and large tree ferns along the riverbanks.
(For travelers who choose the 2-day option, the experience includes spending the night inside the jungle with a camping-style setup.)
Once you arrive back in Bukit Lawang, whether from the day trip or the overnight option, it is time to return to Medan. Get back into the vehicle and relax while your driver brings you safely back to your hotel in Medan. Arrival is expected around 9:00 PM.
