Full Description
Join a small-group trekking experience to explore the incredible rainforest ecosystem of Gunung Leuser National Park in Bukit Lawang.
Your adventure begins by meeting your local guide in Bukit Lawang before continuing directly into the national park. Walk through dense lowland rainforest filled with towering old trees and rich vegetation. This forest is well known for its excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, especially primates. Species that may be spotted include Sumatran White-handed Gibbons (Hylobates lar vestitus), Southern Pig-tailed Macaques, Thomas’ Leaf Monkeys also known as Thomas’ Langur, the impressive Great Argus Pheasant, and the iconic Sumatran Orangutan.
This trekking experience is available in two duration options: a 3-hour trek or a longer 6-hour trek. As with any wildlife experience, spending more time in the forest generally increases your chances of spotting more animals in their natural environment.
After several hours exploring the rainforest, make your way back toward the Bukit Lawang village. Continue the journey with a relaxing rafting experience along the Bohorok River. You will float down the river using large rubber tubes fitted with hammock-style seating, drifting past beautiful rainforest scenery with tall dipterocarp trees and large ferns lining the riverbanks.
